I saw something yesterday that kind of blew my mind. I knew it intuitively but to see it in print was a bit shocking. Knitters (and crocheters) are to a greater extent mathematicians. I, an avowed math hater, the one who has infinite trouble keeping a checkbook, a mathametician, get out. But then I thought about it. I supose I am. It kind of creeped up with out my realizing it. Geometry, percents, ratios, and I'm not talking about anything fancy, just your basic sweater. I think that part of designing is what appeals to me the the most. Figuring out how the stitches will work together to look good, how the numbers translate into stunning shapes. Math provides the structure to this hobby. Well consider my mind blow, or at least changed.
